The AHS 8th Summer Institute and 18th National Competition scholarship winners that attended the 2009 competition in Salt Lake City, Utah were:
Molly Arns, 20 years old, from Denver, CO, began playing violin at the age of 10 and pursued the harp thereafter. She is currently completing her Music Business Degree in Harp Performance at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. She plans on pursuing a career in teaching harp as well as performing with an orchestra. A $1,000 scholarship was provided to her to attend the AHS 9th Summer Conference and 18th National Competition in Salt Lake. Molly wrote to us after her trip to let us know she had an amazing time and that she learned a great deal about competing. She was able to sit in on some Master Classes and Lectures from harpists around the world. We believe this opportunity will help Molly in the pursuit of her degree and future as a professional harpist.
Serena Eve Kamps, 18 years old, from Pickett, WI, began playing harp at 3 years old along with piano. She is one of six children in her home studying music. Serena has passed 8 grades of Performance Exams with the Royal School of Music with distinction. Her future plans involve earning a diploma in Harp performance from the Royal School of Music as well as pursuing advanced music theory classes at the International Academy of Music. Another goal is to pursue the Suzuki Harp Teacher Training Course in 2010. Serena was given a $1,000 scholarship to attend the AHS 9th Summer Conference and 18th National Competition in Salt Lake City. She wrote to us thereafter and expressed her appreciation for the opportunity to learn so much that will help her prepare to perform for her ABRSM Diploma recital in the Fall of 2009.
